CARVE YOUR OWN PATH
Since 1994 Studio Ronin has produced its own unique blend of comics, design, concept work, and Fine Art.
The Studio was founded by Christopher Shy and quickly gained popularity for it’s no nonsense approach to art and effects. Using a blend of old school effects techniques, model and miniature builds, and large scale tempera painting - Studio Ronin quickly became a style unto itself.
With over one thousand books illustrated by Christopher Shy, as well as Graphic Novels such as Silent Leaves, Ascend, Good Apollo, work for Marvel, DC, as well as set design for concerts, and film - Studio Ronin’s experience and approach to problem solving has become legend.
In 2004 Studio Ronin gave its first large scale gallery exhibition of Christopher Shy’s tempera originals, some over 8 feet tall. The paintings were shown in Chicago at Echo Gallery, and the exhibition was held over for one year.
Studio Ronin also illustrated Good Apollo; I am Burning Star IV for Coheed and Cambria, as well as the album cover. Afterwards Christopher Shy helped design the set design for their 2005-2006 overseas tour, including a giant onstage guillotine.
Recently, Studio Ronin and Christopher Shy completed work on the graphic novel Pathfinder, released by Dark Horse Comics, which was made into a film directed by Marcus Nispel. Studio Ronin handled design on the film in almost every aspect, from simple sword and helmet designs, to miniatures, and customs concepts, as well as the promotional materials, including the international and domestic movie poster.
For fourteen years Studio has continued to raise the bar, and create its own watermark in concepts and story telling. It created an image of what an independent art studio should be, and redefined the doors that should be open for the small, masterless studio.
Studio Ronin become a standard and beacon for the independent artist and art studio - to believe in a unique vision to the work that is vital to both the entertainment world, and the passionate artist. That both can exist within a world that adherers to not only it's own rules, passions, but can carve a unique destiny and body of work.
Studio Ronin, fourteen years and counting.
