Seven months to complete, the adaptation from the original screenplay was directed by Marcus Nispel, and painted by Christopher Shy. A collaborative effort between Christopher Shy and Marcus Nispel, they set out to achieve a distinct look to the events portrayed in Leata Blas original script. Many of the concepts and painting in the graphic novel were used to guide in the overall look and feel of the film.
