The original film followed the exploits of warring tribes in ancient Norway. The new version, by “Alexander” screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis, concerns the little-known skirmishes that took place between the Vikings and Native Americans a thousand years ago. When a Viking boy is left behind, he is adopted and raised as an Indian, despite his straw-blonde hair. When a Viking raid wipes out his village, he becomes his adopted peoples' savior in battling the Norsemen.
A thousand years in the past, a young Norse boy is left behind after his clan shipwrecks on the Eastern shores. Despite his lineage, the boy is raised by the very Indians his kinsmen set out to destroy. Now, as the Vikings return to stage another barbaric raid on his village, the 25 year-old Norse warrior wages a personal war to stop the Vikings’ trail of death and destruction. Forging his own path, his destiny is revealed and his identity re-claimed. In
the process, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery as he comes to term with his heritage. The unique tale was inspired by the mythological elements in Nils Gaup’s film “Ofelas” (1987) and the renewed interest of this little known historical account of the first invasion on American ground, 492 years before the arrival of Columbus.
Christopher Shy and STUDIO RONIN contributed concept art, weapon and costume design, miniatures, as well as adapted the screenplay to graphic novel for Dark Horse Comics.
